At times I found the novel a little boring and maybe tedious, but the images of the old man alone, hungry, tired, wounded, feeling inferior up against the fish, taking it all in with nostalgia, assenting from the sea, created a stunning affect. The best thing about the novel, aside from the old man's struggles, was the honest interactions between the old man and the boy; the conservations they would have, the actions that they take towards one another, and their thoughts make the relationship more realistic. Overall, "The Old Man and the Sea" was an unique story that encompasses the story of man versus nature, man versus self, as well as, one's determination, courage, and realization that age takes away many things, but never perseverance.
