some ideas
While we were discussing in class about the turtle, in the story it says the turtle is sorry for itself. i think that can also mean Hemingway is also sorry for himself.
Also...
On page 50 it says "His choice had been to stay in the deep dark water far out beyond all snares and traps and treacheries." I think this means he wants to keep all his ideas to himself so no one else will get credit for his work.

to ADD ON, on page 49 Hemingway was talking about the male fish letting the female fish feed first, and when the female fish got hooked and couldn't fight any more, that the male would always stay by her side. so with all that said we can say he was referring to him wife in a way.
add on to Codi's quote, can we also say that he didn't want to write anymore, or didn't want to go through the criticism of what he wrote about?? if that makes any sense
