The Boy???
Throughout the whole story when the old man is alone, especially when he gets deep out at sea he keeps bringing up the boy and wishing that the boy could be there with him... I don't know what the boy could represent to Hemingway if anything and i was curious, any ideas?

I think the boy represents hemingways wife because he keeps mentioning the boy which he needs his wife to be with him through this hard time of his life of writing.

I'm not really sure...
I really have not figured out who the little boy represents in Hemingway life, but i do notice just how important the boy is to the old man. During the old mans adventure far out into the sea, he wishes the boy was with him numerous times. Whoever this boy represents, he is of the utmost importance. It is not one sided either, the boy needs the old man just as much as the old man needs the boy.
