Such a Random Thought
" The iridescent bubbles were beautiful. But they were the falsest thing in the sea and the old man loved to see the big sea turtles eating them"
When i first read this my mind connected the poisonous fish to writers who write stories that don't have a deep meaning behind them. They are the writers who publish work that doesn't necessarily deserve to be published. The turtles symbolize people (critics) who see the authors for what they are, and try to make it known that their work is actually garbage.
And if this isn't exactly what Hemingway was thinking when he wrote this, I strongly believe the fish and the turtles are a metaphor for something bigger.
