When catching the Fish
The old man will not let go. He is extremely determined to keep the fish, no matter the cost. This could be about Hemingway's writing career and how he won't let go of it. He lets this want to stay great consume him, which pushes people away and causes loneliness. Which is also another evident factor in this story. The old man shows extreme signs of loneliness.... he has full blown conversations with himself just to get by. and he frequently says he misses the boy and wishes they were together.
