The bird pg.55
" Take a good rest, small bird, he said. Then go in and take your chance like any man or bird or fish." Hemingway writing this, gave me the idea that perhaps the "bird" is his brain or ideas just like the fish is, and as so he wants to make sure he takes good care of them in order to one day put them in paper. Writing his true feelings and plots, (taking a chance) and hoping his work delivers to the audience.

i think when he was talkin to the bird it might indicate a note of suicide. he wanted that bird to stay he didnt want it to go away. he even probably feel lonely so which of made us take it as a suicide note.
